Our Inspiration

A message from our Executive Director

Georgia Mattson is the inspiration for the Georgia Mattson Memorial Shelter

I met Georgia Mattson in November 2007 while employed with the Silverdale United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Mattson was the type of person who would give anything to those she met on the streets, from a word of encouragement to food. She was not one to support a bad habit but if she met someone willing to accept what was offered, Georgia would do her best to ensure that person got what he or she needed.  As we became friends, we shared a vision: No one should have to spend the night outside in the cold.

Georgia died December 16, 2009 before the realization of her dream, to establish a permanent shelter that would be open seven days a week no matter how cold, wet or dry the weather, became a reality.  As Georgia’s colleague in mission work within the Kitsap Community, I have no intention of disappointing her memory. Through my family’s dedication and the support expressed by many of Georgia’s family and friends to the Vulnerable Population of Kitsap County, we started The Weaver Foundation.

This organization is devoted to fulfilling Georgia’s dream. I hope you will join us in honoring the woman who thought everyone deserved help.
